karma's a bitch, ain't it george?

"Mr. Bush's overall job rating has fallen to 34 percent, down from 42 percent last month. Fifty-nine percent disapprove of the job the president is doing."

near miss
09:56 PM

Henry, the newest of our trio of cats, as I have pointed out before, is not the sharpest tool in the drawer.

The other day as I stood before the toilet, just about to relieve myself, I noticed some movement between my ankles. There was my flame point Siamese friend, front paws on the porcelain, looking for a nice cool drink from his extra large cup.

For just a flicker of a moment I considered teaching him a lesson, but in the end, it just seemed too coarse. I retreated, let him slake his thirst, and then used the bowl in the fashion it was accustomed to.

weakness / strength
09:34 PM

A strong spirit knows what it believes. It lives those beliefs. The life of a strong spirit is one of quiet moments of duty, sacrifice, love.

A strong spirit is unmoved by the slights of a fool. A strong spirit feeds upon wisdom.

A man jests with a pen. A man rages in indignation. A man lives a life of duty, sacrifice, and love.

Who is the fool?

don't give up - demand justice
09:50 PM

"Here is the bottom line: the president is breaking the law. He already has the authority to wiretap suspected terrorists—and we support that—but he chose to reach beyond that. We need to know why he refuses to get warrants and he needs to be held accountable.

Respecting the rule of law isn't a partisan issue, it's a core American principle. That's why prominent conservatives like David Keene, Paul Weyrich and Grover Norquist are outraged by the president's illegal program. Even leading Republicans like Chuck Hagel, Lindsey Graham, and Sam Brownback have seriously questioned the president's authority. With public criticism mounting, the Bush administration knows they're in big trouble.

If the president can get away with breaking the law now, there's no limit to what he or any other president can do. Together we can stop it now."

This criminal regime that calls itself the Administration admits to breaking the law. They are counting on you to be too tired from their unrelenting assault on your freedom to do anything about it. Even taking 5 seconds to sign an online petition.

Be responsible and give a damn. It's your country. Sign the petition now.

the fading twilight of analog
10:36 PM

"I'm 32 years old. That means I missed reel-to-reel. I never owned an 8-track. But I remember vinyl. In this modern world of MP3s and iPods, there's something romantic about records...I wonder if the children of today will look back on the downloading of songs and updating of iPods with the same romance. Somehow, I doubt it."

Derek contemplates the fading romance of music media and triggers my memories of vinyl from childhood through college radio.
