read aloud to someone today
10:38 PM

"You can easily make the argument that reading silently is an economic artifact, a sign of a new prosperity beginning in the early 19th century and a new cheapness in books. The same argument applies to listening to books on your iPhone. But what I would suggest is that our idea of reading is incomplete, impoverished, unless we are also taking the time to read aloud."

-Verlyn Klinkenborg, NY Times

I'm not going to claim virtue here. I've been reading aloud for 16 years straight, starting with my own kids and then with my students as well. Whether it is a poem, a comic, an article, or a bedtime story, reading aloud feels good.

so you think you can dance?

10 million Americans watch the best show on tv - So You Think You Can Dance?

On Thursday, 10 million people will get a peek at my dance studio, The Ballroom Dance Company.

SYTYCD is doing live satellite video feeds from just 5 dance studios across the U.S. during the broadcast of the premier of this season. Buzz, dance, food - free.

Be there.
